Out Shooting with Abigail

How often do you photograph someone with blue hair? Here is a look at a quick photo session I had one autumn evening in the Okanagan with Abigail, a makeup artist, hair stylist and aspiring model.

More photos and some info on my set up after the jump.

The Canon G15 : Review

iPod Photo from @cgardinerphoto instagram
If you have been around my Facebook page over the last little while you may have noticed a piece of news which I found particularly exciting; that is the new Canon Powershot G15 camera I purchased in March.

It's feature loaded in both still and video recording modes.  A few of my favourite features are manual control of video focus and exposure, RAW still photo capture at twelve megapixels at ISOs as low as 80 and high into the 1000s. One feature that wasn't advertised but was awesome to find is the high speed capture at 120 and 240fps in low resolution video shooting modes.

Read on to see some photos made with the G15 and more of what I think about it!

Out Shooting with Kara

Not too long ago I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Kara.  Trade shoots with models are a great way to network, get some fresh photos, have your work viewed by some different circles, and try some new techniques maybe.   Read on for a bunch more photos from the day!

Modelling and Portfolio Photography : Trade Shoots!

Interested in doing a photoshoot for trade with Chris Gardiner Photography?  I used to offer these semi-frequently, and at that time, they were quite helpful in my understanding of lighting people for portraits.

Blog Along the Way

Isn't technology cool?  Thanks to what is not even the latest technology, I can take a free moment wherever I am to jot down a quick idea for a blog when it comes to my mind.  Take for instance, the bulk of this post is being written while I am out capturing a time-lapse at the lakeshore. Not the one with the GoPro pictured above, but it very well could have been with that iPhone photo and this iPhone post.

A trip to "the Island"

A beautiful walkway in Cathedral Grove

That's what we call it in this part of the country anyways. That is the beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia. After as many years as I have spent out west, I only just made my first trip to The Island in August 2013.  That's fine - it was worth the wait.

What did we do, what shouldn't you miss? Find out from this photographer's point of view!

Ontario in the Fall : Redux 2013

Last fall in Ontario netted me some of what we like to call 'banger photos' or the ones we really really like. So it's no surprise I'll be back again this fall to see some more of the same, and hopefully a lot of what I missed the last time!

The fall is such a short window in so many places, it can be hard to hit it right in more than one location from a photographer's point of view.

Read More to see what I came back with from last year!

Shark in a Fishbowl

Where it will all happen.

It's not a new concept ; a fish, no matter how big it is destined to be, will remain the size of the container it lives in, without outgrowing it. Goldfish in small bowls stay small, goldfish in big bowls get bigger.
That's all well and good, but no one comes here for zoology lessons. How it relates to me is;  I feel like I have a great white's appetite for work, but up until just recently, was stuck in a tiny little gold fish sized bowl of an office.

Up until recently.

New Facebook Terms : My Conclusion

You may have seen a post of mine a few weeks back about the new facebook terms, not to mention some talk around the internet regarding them, and if you are really following me there, you might notice that images got smaller, and somehow watermarks got bigger? What is all that about?

Michaelbrook Community Garden in Kelowna

Michaelbrook Community Garden
Out exploring the area we moved to here in Kelowna and came across Michaelbrook Community Garden.  Not only was it full of a truly impressive collection of vegetables and flowers. It was pretty cool to walk around each and trying to name everything you saw.

Along with the plant life, and one of the plot 'renters' we talked to, we also stumbled upon some other natural life. Read more after the link,

Last Night's Brilliant Display

One from my camera that was shooting time-lapse last night.
Good morning! Did you get some sleep? I didn't. It was too epic of a night. The Northern Lights were out in full force, even in our relatively light polluted Kelowna!  Displays were extending overhead with even a few moments where some glow would be visible into the high Southern sky.

It doesn't come often around here, and I'm out to photograph it even less frequently so I certainly took advantage of this opportunity.  The picture I've shared with you is one from a time-lapse.  Check the YouTube video at the bottom of this post for the time-lapse itself!  Compiled overnight and uploaded for your viewing pleasure!

New Facebook Terms

I'm not big on hashtags and stuff like that, but every now and then there are some #firstworldproblems that come along and affect people, like myself, in a way that we truly consider to be a giant problem.

Sometimes people like to complain about facebook (while on facebook), 'blah blah I can't find my messages, blah blah blah', that is not where I am going here. In fact, most people who complain about those facebook updates probably have no idea what is in store for them now on the popular social  networking site.

GoPro Does It Again

There it goes again, GoPro makes a new, and somehow, more awesome helmet camera again.  What is it? The Hero3+ : Black Edition. They also released a 3+ Silver which sounds more like the Hero3 Black from last season.

What looks most dope about it? Oh I don't know, did you see the first two seconds of the YouTube video above? I don't say this a lot, but omg. Toting tones of new features in an even smaller package, the most impressive appears to be the new angle "SuperView" which in the first glance made me feel like I was watching something off of a much larger camera, IMAX style.
